Description
Welcome!WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT IT: a beautiful knifewing pin signed by the artist and well documented as having been made by Frank Vacit, one of the greatest early Zuni master artists. The pin is very small but very powerful with exceptional stones. The face is the most iridescent mother of pearl which seems to glow in the dark and shines with all the other colors, magically. We have intense turquoise, probably blue gem mine, and a deep red abalone and black jet, primarily flush, some slightly rounded, dimensional, very rich deep colors. It's a small masterpiece.
BACKGROUND: This is a prototypical piece of Frank Vacit's though he was a prolific and creative artist who worked in many many styles. He lived from 1915 - 1999 and worked from the 1930's into the 1970s. He was an early innovator of mosaic and channel inlay and of using a hallmark, though he didn't always use one. He was a prominent contributor to the CG Wallace catalog for the Sotheby's auction of C. G. Wallace's personal collection. He is one of the most highly prized and highly priced silversmiths represented in the best galleries and museums. This is an important and valuable pin that is suitable for the best collections, is museum worthy and can be worn and enjoyed. Surely a signature piece!
CONDITION: excellent vintage, wearable, collectable.
